About Us

Hi, my name is Cio, short for Rocio. I’m a Texas gal, originally from southern California, who has a passion for fashion….I love design! I’m not a clothes spendaholic, (though I used to be in my college years), but I try to restrain myself now that I’m a wife and mother. I’m more of a “window” shopper. I enjoy looking through store windows at beautifully displayed merchandise. I walk through well designed shops and look for displays.

I’m a mother, a freelance writer, a fashion designer, and stylist. I wrote a book a few years ago called ‘Polka Dot Moms’, a mother’s guide to happiness. I’m a mother of three children ages 9, 12, and 13. I love being a mom. For me, being a mom is like a being on a rollercoaster ride that you never want to exit. It has big ups and deep downs, it twists and turns unexpectedly, but when you look back at it from a distance you wonder how it passed so fast…..and you’re proud you did it!

My book…I wrote it because I was looking for a book like it, and could not find one. I had been writing a couple of different columns on women’s topics in Utah when I chose to write a book. I saw the need so I wrote it…and I wrote from the heart. It was a great project and I enjoyed being on the radio and television to share it with other women. I put it ‘on the back burner’ for a while so that my hubby and I could be the general contractors for our home. Between writing checks out for subs and choosing colors/textures for everything, it was the busiest time in my life. We designed and built a craftsman-style dream home. Almost two years later, our home was finally finished and it was beautiful home…we got exactly what we wanted…no regrets!

Then, we chose to move to Texas, so here we are. Texas is hot, humid and so lovely…no snow to shovel, though I miss the snow-capped mountains and hikes. Texas has thee best flea markets! In fact it has the world’s largest flea market in Canton, TX. I love our home here in Dallas. People are friendly and kind. We have sweet neighbors and beautiful, scented magnolia trees. We have a few pets too. There is a preserve next door with a pretty creek where we like to spend family time. Speaking of time, it passes so fast.

A year after moving to Texas, I had heart surgery and then started school on my last week of my recovery…I still remember walking out of the college with my heavy book bag and having to stop every couple minutes to rest. It was humbling, but I was so excited to be back in school because I had been waiting for this a very long time. Earlier in our marriage, when we started our family, I decided to postpone my art/interior design degree midway through school to be a full-time stay at home mom. No regrets! I got to be deeply involved with each of our children and build a foundation to a life-long relationship. We bonded through thick and thin. We enjoy having our family time and love each other. My husband has become my best friend, and our children are our treasures.

Although I still like pretty packages filled with shiny gifts, I find more peace and joy from family and Christian living. In fact, I have actually become more of a frugal shopper, at least compared to my old standards. Beyond fashion and all it entails, I also love family traditions, babies, holidays, hugs, cooking, baking, crafts, going to the gym, aprons, organic foods (I try?), soft sugar cookies :), beautiful china and tablecloths, Jell-O, art, soft sweaters and blankets, symphonies, architecture, interior décor, gardening, hiking, fresh fruit, fresh herbs, farmers markets, making pottery, hats (does that count as fashion-oops!), all sorts of vintage finds, and TMTM (too much to mention so come back and read my blog :) :).

The last time I had a blog our kid’s were toddlers and I felt lucky if I got enough time for a bathroom break. Back then, making time for self was a big priority. Now, our kids are in school most of the day, and though I enjoy more time to myself, I miss them too. I look forward to seeing my family. None of us are even close to perfect, but we are family, and we love each other. That is life...and here is mine...
